ARUNDEL MILLS ANNOUNCES ITS PREMIER MONTH-LONG NATIONAL CELEBRATION OF WOMEN DURING OCTOBER 2011

Initiative to feature appearance by Miss America 2011, free fashion and style experiences, community recognition awards to benefit local military-affiliated groups, giveaways and more

HANOVER, MD (September 14, 2011)  For the first time, Arundel Mills, the largest outlet and value retail destination in Maryland, will present “Celebrating Women,” a month-long national initiative to honor and empower women everywhere. Celebrating Women, which kicks off with a special appearance by Miss America 2011, Teresa Scanlan, will also feature style presentations, recognition of area volunteers, a “Pretty in Pink” fashion design competition, women’s health awareness programs, in-store events, a live designer fashion show, shopping rewards  and discounts and more.

“Arundel Mills’ Celebrating Women is our way to empower women of all ages through fashion and self-expression,” said Wendy Ellis, director of marketing and business development at Arundel Mills. “This effort will showcase our unique brand of shopping with fashion forward outlet and value retailers, while engaging women who play a vital role in our society as mothers, caregivers, business leaders and community activists.”

Celebrating Women will kick off on October 5, with a special appearance by Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan as host of The Fashion Event, a high-energy fashion extravaganza with local models, presented by The BANY Agency.  This event will also honor dedicated volunteers from the Fort Meade Officers’ Spouses’ Club, and the USO of Metropolitan Washington for their continued commitment to improving the lives of military service members, and mark the announcement of a special scholarship opportunity for Anne Arundel County students.

Arundel Mills will host a month-long gift card drive to benefit The Red Devils, a local organization that strives to ease the economic and emotional impact of breast cancer by paying for patient and family non-medical support such as transportation, groceries, clothing and dining, as part of Celebrating Women.  Donated gift cards for gas stations, restaurants, store cards and Visa or American Express cards will be collected at Guest Services in Neighborhood 5 throughout October.  Shoppers that purchase an American Express Simon Giftcard valued at $25 or more for donation to The Red Devils will receive a free gift courtesy of Arundel Mills, while supplies last.

During Celebrating Women, Red Hat Society members will enjoy a day to call their own at the Red Hat Rendezvous on Tuesday, October 11.  Guests will enjoy a fun-filled Happy Hour including complimentary cocktails and appetizers at Buffalo Wild Wings, free giveaways and special discounts. Throughout the month Red Hats who bring their membership card to Guest Services will also receive a complimentary Red Hat Shopping Power Pack and more.

Women will also benefit from two interactive fashion and style experiences, or Style Stops, hosted by fashion forward retailers at Arundel Mills. Each evening will feature shopping rewards programs as well as in-store events, promotions and entertainment and will be centered around specific themes, including “Girls Night Out,” on October 13 and “Shop with Mom,” on October 20.

As the finale to this inaugural effort on Wednesday, October 26, Arundel Mills will host a breast cancer survivor tribute, featuring recognition of The Red Devils’ volunteers, live entertainment and the announcement of winners of the “Pretty in Pink” fashion design competition, which will challenge designers from the Art Institute of Northern Virginia to create glamorous looks that personify the iconic image of Miss America.  These one-of-a-kind styles will be on display throughout the month, and shoppers will be able to vote for their favorite design on Arundel Mills’ Facebook page.
